Aack!! "MDataErr ( 1202 ) : Account not properly configured"
Does this error pop up on your Treo
TM
Smartphone when checking email?
Aack!
What a great expression. It turns up every now and then in the
"Cathy" comic strip
and never fails to get my attention. So, when I tried to access my email using my Palm Treo 700p this morning and a box popped up that said "MDataErr(1202): Account not properly configured", the very first thing that came into my head was Aack!! Now what??
I tapped the "OK" button and things were not - as you probably already know - okay.
Hmmm... It worked when I awoke this morning (I know, it's weird, but the first thing I do each morning is put on my glasses and the second is check my email). The phone then sat on the charger for an hour until I hotsynced just before leaving for work. Ten minutes later I am in the car and I get this error message when I attempted an email run (do you think I obsess over email?). Tried it a few more times and got the same error repeatedly when accessing the Treo's email application.
Upon arrival at work I did what any self-respecting geek would have done:
Get coffee
Research problem
I checked out Palm's knowledge base, searching for "mdataerr" and "mdataerr(1202)" without success. I tried again with just "1202" and get a hit on a list of
Exchange ActiveSync error codes and meanings in VersaMail
, but the listing for 1202 was nonsensical in this context. I moved on, googling the same terms, and received results that were only slightly more meaningful with talk of invalid saved preferences and/or missing VersaMail files. This was not looking good; I was beginning to think in terms of hard reset with data loss and wondering whether the hotsync I did earlier in the morning was also corrupt.
I was just settling into the this-is-going-to-have-to-wait-until-I-get-home-tonight mode when it occurred to me that a
soft reset
wouldn't hurt and might actually help. And, do you know what?
It did.
