Production Time & Cost Calculator

PcTime Screenshot
The PalmOS application that makes it easy to calculate production time and costs for the parts you make.

On the plant floor, your PalmOS or Windows Mobile* PDA or Smartphone with PcTime! loaded becomes a powerful tool for accurately estimating actual production rates and costs and for performing what-if analysis.

Use this application with any PalmOS (v3.5 or above) device; newer/faster models suggested.  Includes optimizations for PalmOS 5 (hi-res) devices and 30 pre-set color schemes for color-capable devices.

Runs on StyleTap * PcTime! Production Time & Cost Calculator may also be run on Windows Mobile devices in conjunction with the StyleTap® Platform.  See the Frequently Asked Questions page for more info.
Tap any of the three buttons at the bottom of the splash screen to view registration details, version/release information, or End User License Agreement information.  Tap anywhere else to proceed to the main PcTime! screen...

... which is shown at right.

For a quick test, tap within the "Cyc time" (or, "Cycle time") field and use the pop-up keyboard to enter a value in hours and decimal hours, up to 9.9999.
After tapping the "Enter" key on the pop-up keyboard, you are returned to the main screen and the basic results are immediately displayed along with some additional buttons which we will discuss later.
PcTime! includes a digital stopwatch function which is easily accessed by tapping the clock icon positioned just to the right of the cycle time field.

Tap the large "Start" button to begin timing an operation; the "Stop" button to end, and then "Return" to go back to the main screen.  On most PalmOS devices, you can also use the hardware "Up" and "Down" buttons to start and stop the timer.

For user convenience, the position of the on-screen buttons can be set to the left or right edge of the screen - see PcTime!'s user preferences.
Do "what if" analysis by adjusting any of the parameters shown on the screen.

Here, I tapped within the "Shifts/Day" field and will use the pop-up keyboard to change from one to 1-1/2 shifts per day.
Note the large black "dot" which has appeared alongside the Shifts/day field.  This symbol is used throughout to indicate that the field has been modified from its default value.  You can return an individual field to its default by tapping the dot; or tap the now-visible "Default All" button to return all modified values to their defaults (as defined for the current Department & Workcenter in the table editor).
Returning to the main screen, we see a drop-down listbox currently displaying the default workcenter, Department 0000, Workcenter 0000.

Tap within the box to expand the list and choose from among the available workcenter configurations; the values of all parameters with the exception of cycle time are immediately updated and production output is re-calculated accordingly.
Tap the "More" button to see extended production data.   Tap the "Return" button to return to the main screen or...
... tap the "Cost Data" button to view the calculated cost per piece for the operation.   You can add material cost to the total value by tapping within the field and using the pop-up keyboard to enter a value.
Returning to the main screen once again, tap the "Save" button to export a copy of the current calculation to a Palm Memopad entry.  Adjust the default title as desired then tap Save.
The generated memo contains a complete record of the production time and cost calculation and can be viewed or printed using the Palm Desktop application.
Add, delete, or edit your own Department/Workcenter parameters using PcTime!'s tabe editor.

Tap Menu -> Dept/WC Table Editor then select an existing entry or tap the "Add New" button.
Add or edit the Department, Workcenter, and Description values.

Department and Workcenter codes may be entered as numeric, alpha, or mixed alphanumeric values in accordance with your existing systems. Entries are limited to four characters, typical of major ERP software applications.
Available production parameters in PcTime! are also typical of major ERP software applications...
... as are the cost parameters.
Here again, the popup numeric keypad makes data entry as easy as possible.

Too many workcenters to enter manually?  Contact me, I can build a custom database using information provided by you, usually at no charge.  Or, I can point you to the tools needed to build your own database on your desktop PC and then copy it to your handheld.
PcTime! allows the user to configure a number of preferences, divided into three groups.

Here, the "General preferences" include whether to display the splash screen on startup, beep on error, and - for color devices - allows you to set a custom color scheme for PcTime!
The "Stopwatch preferences" allow you to set the location of the control buttons and how to deal with your device's automatic power-off function while the stopwatch is in use.
"Cost display preferences" sets the format for cost data input and output.  Outputs will be rounded as required.
