The Back-Story: PalmOS Apps for
Engineers & Machinists
|
 |
I am a notorious "early adopter" where techno-goodies
are concerned. I owned one of the first Sony Betamax Video
Cassette Recorders, and I thought my Texas Instruments TI-59
Programmable Calculator (and its PC-100 Printer) was the coolest
thing.
I mention this because when I first laid my eyes on a US Robotics
Pilot 5000 I knew I had to have one and, soon after handing my
money to the cashier and ever-so-carefully opening that box,
I thought to myself, "Gee, it would be neat to write a program
for this thing."
Years would pass before I got around to that particular project,
resulting in my first published applications, a group which
I have collectively named "Geo-Matic For The Palm". I
have been pleasantly surprised by the robust sales of what I
had thought of as "niche" applications and already have plans
for apps yet to come.
My second PalmOS application, "Decimal Equivalents, Drills and
Tap Drills For The Palm" is another tool which will be useful
for the machinist, toolmaker, and craftsman.
ISOFits calculates limits and
fits in accordance with ISO standards 286-1:1988 and
286-2:1988.
My latest app, PcTime!, is a
fantastic tool for the production planner, supervisor, or
estimator. Whether in the office or on the plant
floor, this "Production Time & Cost Calculator" is a
powerful way to accurately calculate actual production rates
and perform what-if analysis.
